Writing Prompts - Do Another Lap

A MARATHON IS TO RUNNING AS WRITING IS TO WRITING.

Comparing running to writing has been done before. However, the analogy hits a little harder for me now. Running is work. And, surprise! So is writing.

Is my running pretty?  Am I fast runner? Do I like running? No. No. Yes!

Is my writing good?  Can I write things effortlessly? Do I love writing?  Meh - maybe. (You can judge. Really,  you can, it's okay. It's a natural thing to do.)  Writing, to me, is everything BUT effortless. And, yes, I LOVE WRITING!

It is curious how I wouldn't allow myself to write. At least, that was my former self. Any excuse to avoid writing was welcome because of my fear of failure.

Well, Failure, it's nice to meet you. I get regular correspondence from you via literary magazine editors. You scare me less.

Back to the writing-running analogy. I'm wise enough to know that if I want to run a marathon one day (and I do), that I can't just show up on race day and expect anything other than disaster.

So it is with my writing goals. This is the point of the post. You've been patient and I appreciate you so, dear reader.  To start each day I write a writing prompt for, at least, ten minutes.

Don't worry as I won't publish all of them. If any strike me as having some merit then I will share and if you disagree, please let me know if I should take another lap.
